Muthoot Finance Supports Fisherwomen Livelihoods in Chennai

As part of its CSR initiatives under the Health & Livelihood category, Muthoot Finance distributed 75 insulated ice boxes to support the livelihoods of fisherwomen in Chennai. The initiative benefited 75 fisherwomen from economically vulnerable communities who sell fish on roadsides and platforms at the Kasimedu Fish Market without access to permanent shops or proper storage facilities.

The project was implemented to improve post-harvest storage solutions for fisherfolk and reduce spoilage of fish, thereby helping the beneficiaries preserve the freshness of their catch for longer durations. By minimising wastage and improving storage conditions, the initiative aims to create better income opportunities and strengthen food security within coastal communities.

The support is also expected to enhance the overall quality of life and family income of the beneficiaries while promoting sustainable fishing and selling practices. The initiative places special emphasis on empowering women within the fishing community by enabling them to work in safer and more hygienic conditions.
