The PAN number you get has lifetime validity and the application for a new PAN can be submitted offline and online. Online there are two portals where you can apply easily sitting at home. These two portals are:

Protean (earlier NSDL https://tin.tin.nsdl.com/pan/index.html) or

UTIITSL (https://www.pan.utiitsl.com/PAN/)

For applying offline you can visit any of the district-level PAN agencies and submit your PAN form and necessary documents there. Indian nationals and NRIs (including businesses, NGOs, partnership firms, municipal authorities, trusts, etc.) must complete Form 49A in order to obtain a new PAN whereas Foreign individuals and businesses must complete Form 49AA. You must provide these forms to the Income Tax PAN Services Unit together with all other necessary documents.

It is essential for many financial operations, including the activation of bank accounts, depositing cash in bank accounts, the opening of Demat accounts, and sale of immovable property and securities, among many others. All government and non-government organisations in the nation recognise the PAN card as a vital form of photo identification.

Therefore, it is crucial to fill out your PAN application form with utmost attention to avoid any discrepancies and rejection of the form.

Don't panic if you lose your PAN card. You can fill out an application for a duplicate PAN card offline or online. Visit the NSDL or UTIITSL website. For a duplicate copy of a PAN card, Indian citizens need to complete Form 49-A and foreigners have to fill out Form 49-AA and submit payment online. In less than 45 days, the PAN card will be sent out.
