How to Check PAN Card Status by Mobile Number?
PAN, or permanent account number, is a unique 10-digit alphanumeric identity allotted to each taxpayer by the Income Tax Department under the supervision of the Central Board of Direct Taxes. The introduction of the PAN was a revolutionary system to bring together different taxable entities under one umbrella. The primary objective/importance of PAN is to use a uniform identification mechanism to track financial transactions that might have a taxable component to prevent tax evasion. NSDL and UTIITSL are the official platforms for PAN-related tasks. Through these, you can apply for a new or duplicate PAN card, link your Aadhaar to the PAN, check the PAN card status, and edit your PAN among other things. For filing for an e-PAN Card, the details of your Aadhar should be correct. An e-PAN links your Aadhar with your PAN.
How to Apply for a PAN Card?
There are two ways to apply for a PAN number. For the offline process, a physical PAN card application form has to be filled up. Apart from that, two photographs and other requisite PAN card documents have to be attached. All these documents have to be sent to Income Tax PAN Services Unit via post or courier. After verification, the PAN Card is sent to your address via registered post.
You can apply online for a PAN card via the NSDL and UTIITSL websites. Once the online application has been submitted, an acknowledgment number is generated. You then have to send all the photocopies of your PAN card-related documents by post or courier to NSDL/UTIITSL. Once your documents are verified, you will receive a physical copy of your PAN card. You can check your PAN card status by using your 15-digit acknowledgment number on the NSDL/UTIITSL website.
A non-resident Indian ('NRI') can apply for a PAN card by submitting Form No. 49A along with the requisite PAN card documents and prescribed fees at the PAN application center or online.
